3 Weirdest Life Hacks for MEMORY LOSS – Works Best For People over 40 (Easy & Fast)

By on April 4, 2017
Is mid-life memory loss hitting you hard? Don’t worry–we all go through it, and is actually a common sign of aging. If you can’t afford to deal with a mid-day mind slump, however, here are 3 weird life hacks that can keep you on track fast!

Climb a Tree

No joke–for a memory boost, climbing a tree could double your working memory speed. In fact, any activity that involves a careful balancing act–such as climbing a tree or avoiding obstacles Ninja Warrior style–could instantly boost your brain power.

The findings, which appear in Perceptual and Motor Skills, explain that it works by exercising both our brains our bodies. Through this intricate brain and body tango we change the way our memory works.

Dr. Ross Alloway, who co-wrote the research, explains why:

“This research suggests that by doing activities that make us think, we can exercise our brains as well as our bodies. By taking a break to do activities that are unpredictable and require us to consciously adapt our movements, we can boost our working memory to perform better in the classroom and the boardroom.”

So if you need a brain boost, find a way to exercise both your brain and body–such as climbing a tree!

Use Your Fists

By this we don’t mean start a fist fight–unless you absolutely need to get out of danger, of course. But this weird life hack could actually help you remember facts better.

According to research from Montclair State University in New Jersey, clenching your right into a fist when you want to remember something, and then clenching your left one when you want to recall that memory, can actually make it easier to remember literally anything! In the study, participants who clenched each fist while learning and recalling certain words performed better, suggesting their short term memory had improved.

So if you’re struggling to remember something, use your hands–this simple trick could take you far.

Look at a Roof

But not just any roof. Research suggests that looking at any grassy roof, either in real life or online, can boost your attention span.

As weird as it sounds, a study led by University of Melbourne researchers found that when people looked at a picture of a grassy roof for one minute, they performed better on tasks later on, suggesting it improved their attention span. Chances are it improved their memory as well, though researchers didn’t explore that in detail.

So if you’re struggling to stay focused, try looking at a grassy rooftop. As goofy as it sounds, it works (at least from a scientific standpoint).
