The Top 2 “Natural” Diets You Need to AVOID Now (#1 Surprised Everyone)!

By on June 14, 2017
Want to eat a healthier diet? Now couldn’t be a better time to start eating right. But before you dive in, make sure to avoid these 2 dangerous diet fads, which are often touted as “healthy” diet methods–here’s why everyone need to avoid them.

Raw Veganism

Veganism is touted as one of the healthiest diets in the world with its emphasis on fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Raw veganism takes it a step further by avoiding any cooked foods (so steamed vegetables are off the menu here). So what’s so bad about this diet?

Believe it or not, raw veganism can ruin your teeth–here’s why.

According to a 1999 study published in Caries Research, people who ate a raw vegan diet experienced significantly more dental problems, including cavities, receding of the gum line, and tooth erosion. In fact, over 60 percent of these participants had at least one tooth with severe decay. Only 2.3 percent had no dental problems.

But why? The acidic content of certain raw fruits and vegetables may play an important role, say experts, which can eat away at tooth enamel. Frequent eating and the consumption of sticky foods–such as nuts and dried fruit–can also speed up tooth decay, which raw vegans commonly do. Bottom line? Avoid high acidic food; that, unfortunately, includes most raw vegan foods.

Gluten-Free Diets

Celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Victoria Beckham swear by this diet for its purported health effects. Eating gluten can make you feel tired and lethargic, dulling your senses. Unfortunately, these claims aren’t scientifically proven, and scientists themselves don’t agree that it is dangerous.

Worse yet, research shows avoiding gluten can actually cause health problems. Say what?

Believe it or not, a 2017 study appearing in BMJ found that people who ate the least amount of gluten were 15 percent more likely to develop heart disease. The reason why is fairly simple–going gluten-free means avoiding whole wheat products more often, which protects against heart disease. When you don’t eat these products, your heart is the first to suffer.

So what’s your best bet? Instead of eliminating gluten, schedule a doctor’s visit instead. If you truly feel tired and lethargic, there could be a medical reason why, such as a lack of vitamin D or a previously diagnosed health condition.  It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your health.
