What is Diabetes? The Natural Treatment for Type 2 Diabetes that is Safe and Effective

By on July 21, 2013
Why is a natural treatment for diabetes so important? Much of it has to do with the fact that diabetes has become a household name in America. A staggering 26 million Americans are known to have diabetes and another 70 million are insulin resistant.

Type 2 diabetes is most prevalent type of diabetes and occurs when the body does not make enough insulin or does not use insulin effectively. Type 2 diabetes is a condition caused mainly by poor diet choices and a sedentary lifestyle. The best natural treatment for diabetes involves a major lifestyle change.

The overall health of Americans began to decline with the industrialization of food. As more people departed from traditional ways of eating, new health conditions began to arise. A number of lifestyle illnesses such as heart disease, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes were virtually unheard of just a hundred years ago or so. The answer to many of these problems lies in eating natural foods. Proper nutrition includes natural foods that have not been manipulated by the food industry. Wholesome foods like the ones our great grandparents used to eat include such things as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, organic meat, raw dairy, raw nuts, and healthy fats. The more a food is processed, the more likely it is that it will contribute to poor health.

Expanding Waistlines Means Decreasing Health

All our internal equipment is designed to function together as a team to keep us healthy. When the body gets the kind of fuel it needs to operate efficiently, it does a very good job metabolizing blood sugar. When it does not get what it needs, problems arise. The best food choices include those that are closest to their natural state.

This means an apple not a box of apple-filled cereal. It means a banana, not a bag of sugar-coated banana chips. The food processing industry has taken simple, natural foods and corrupted them for mass marketing and increased shelf life. The result is, quite visibly, the fattening of America. With an increase in obesity comes a rise in diabetes and other lifestyle illnesses such as heart disease, cancer and stroke. Making healthy food choices is the cornerstone of the best natural treatment for diabetes.

Food Choices

Here are just a few of the dietary tips that will not only keep diabetes at bay but that can also reverse this deadly condition:

  • Choose slow-release carbohydrates including vegetables and whole grains over refined carbohydrates such as white rice, bread and snack items
  • Eat natural fruit as a desert
  • Eat lean protein, preferably organic
  • Eat fresh-caught fish at least twice a week
  • Eliminate processed foods
  • Don’t eat anything with more than five ingredients
  • Limit alcohol and caffeine
  • Eat healthy fats such as olive oil, coconut oil, raw nuts and seeds
  • Eat a balanced meal three times per day
  • Include protein with each snack
  • Get plenty of fiber
  • Drink only fresh, pure water or herbal tea

Other Lifestyle Changes

Along with eating a healthy, nutrient-dense diet, there are a few other important aspects to the natural treatment for diabetes.  It is imperative to get enough sleep, manage stress and exercise daily. Contrary to what some people may think, you do not have to run a marathon to stay fit. As little as fifteen minutes of high-intensity training daily or even a brisk walk will do wonders for your health.  The body requires sleep, without it we would die. People who do not get enough sleep put their body at serious risk of any number of health conditions. Most adults require at least eight hours of uninterrupted sleep each night to give the body time to heal and recharge.  Eat right, exercise; get plenty of sleep and keep your attitude positive, and your body will reward you with great health!
